US Open Final Match Review

So the Djokovic vs. Murray match is today and it will definitely be one for the history books. Novak Djokovic who has won 5 grand slam titles is going to try to defend his title here from last year and take down Andy Murray. Andy Murray World No.4 is going for his very first grand slam title. Known as the "Big 4" or "Big 3," the four highest ranked tennis players, only Andy has not won a grand slam title. Obviously because of that, people call it the “Big 3” since tennis fans don’t believe he can be considered in their elite group if he hasn’t won even one slam. Roger Federer has 17 slams, Nadal has 11 and Novak has 5. Another reason for that is the fact that the “Big 3” has been dominating the game of tennis. Anyways, it will be a fun match to watch with all the pressure on Andy Murray once again.

Tons of pressure was on Andy during the Wimbledon 2012 match against the greatest of all time, Roger Federer. Roger Federer who has won in Wimbledon 7 times now, tying with Pete Sampras’s all-time record. Andy Murray just can’t seem to win a grand slam title. To be honest, I believe he is a fantastic player, but with the Big 3 right in front of him it’s almost impossible to pass and go to the final every time. Every player on tour can feel it too. It’s total domination. Andy Roddick once said “These guys are getting REALLY good.” Andy Roddick is a grand slam winner and just retired a week or so ago by the way. Obviously, getting left out and not being considered one of the top gets inside your head.  To make matters worse, Andy is British. A British tennis player hasn’t won a grand slam title in about 80 years, that’s why there’s intense pressure always riding on his shoulders. At Wimbledon, the crowd was cheering for him and not Roger. Even though Roger was Wimbledon’s “favorite son,” Andy Murray is Wimbledon’s “Native son.”

Many people consider Roger Federer to be a Living Tennis Legend. Just standing across the court facing him is such as honor. Now on Wimbledon grass, that’s different. Roger is the best player on grass, pretty much a fact since he won the grand slam for 5 years in a row and 2 more times afterward. Andy Murray has lost to him repeatedly in grand slam titles. Andy Murray has to pick it up if he wants to take down the World No.2 Novak.  Novak must also be in top form. It will defiantly be a fun, yet heart breaking match to watch since only one of them can come out at the top.

Novak Djokovic was the one tennis player who dominated everyone else on the tennis tour in 2011. He has only won the Australian Open this year, which is short from last year’s domination of 3 slam titles. There were many people expecting him to dominate once again this year, but it didn’t happen. He does have Roger Federer (1) and Rafael Nadal (3) on his back every tournament.
